### Google Workspace

Gmail launched on April Fools in 2004. Far from a joke, it’s now the leading email client. (But Microsoft still dominates regarding paying business customers)

**Deep Expertise**  
Google Apps became G Suite, and then rebranded as Google Workspace. It started out as free, but now costs only 10% less than [Microsoft 365](/content/services/microsoft-365/index.html). Both have their niches, but ironically we’d say the search in Outlook is better than Gmail. Google wins on Chromebook integration, web-first approach, and familiarity for many Gmail users.

**A Range of Apps**  
The core Google Workspace apps are:

- Gmail and Chat  
- Google Meet  
- Google Calendar  
- Google Drive  
- Google Docs

In other words, Google’s productivity suite. A few slightly less-well-known apps are also included, like Forms and Sites.

**Other Options**  
Other options for email & calendar include:

- Zoho (the low-cost option)  
- Hosting your own (less common these days)  
- ProtonMail (high security / end-to-end encryption)  
- Hey (probably the most innovative option)
